Cubs activate P Schlitter; option P Stevens

07/23/2010 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Chicago Cubs have activated right-handed pitcher Brian Schlitter from the 15-day disabled list.

He was placed on the DL on July 7, retroactive to July 3, with a right shoulder impingement.

Schlitter had his contract selected by the Cubs June 26 and made three relief appearances in his first career big league action, throwing three innings during which he allowed five runs.

The 24-year-old made three appearances on a rehabilitation assignment over the last week and threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Iowa.

To make room for Schlitter, the Cubs optioned right-hander Jeff Stevens to Iowa. He posted a 6.11 earned run average and no record in 18 relief outings with Chicago this season.
